This professional workshop offers an opportunity to explore inclusive dance pedagogy and creative methodologies developed through years of artistic practice with mixed-ability groups. Led by internationally recognised Ukrainian choreographer and dance artist Mariia Bakalo, the session focuses on practical tools for working creatively with people with disabilities while expanding participants' own artistic and pedagogical approaches.

Throughout the workshop, Mariia will share movement practices, creative exercises, improvisation tasks, and movement rituals that she uses in her work with mixed-ability audiences. These methods are designed to activate creative expression, deepen attention and presence, strengthen sensitivity to others, and foster meaningful artistic collaboration.

Rather than focusing on technique alone, the workshop invites participants to rethink communication through movement, discover new ways of facilitating creative processes, and experience dance as a space where different bodies, abilities, and perspectives contribute equally to artistic creation.
The workshop is intended for professionals working in dance, theatre, performance, education, community arts, and related fields who are interested in developing more accessible, inclusive, and socially engaged artistic practices.

About Mariia Bakalo:
Mariia Bakalo is a Ukrainian choreographer, performer, dance pedagogue, and researcher whose work bridges contemporary dance, inclusive artistic practice, and social engagement. For many years, she has collaborated with mixed-ability communities, developing innovative movement methodologies that place creativity, empathy, and equal participation at the centre of the artistic process.
Her work has been presented internationally through performances, educational programmes, and professional workshops, inspiring artists and educators to embrace diversity as a creative resource rather than a limitation. Mariia's approach combines contemporary dance, improvisation, somatic awareness, and participatory practices, creating environments where every participant can contribute authentically through movement.
Whether you already work inclusively or are taking your first steps into accessible dance practice, this workshop offers valuable inspiration, practical methodologies, and an opportunity to exchange experiences with fellow professionals.
