"Death will be such an incredibly splendid adventure." /Quote from James Matthew Barrie’s book Peter Pan
"And if I too live until the time when age clouds my mind and the past returns as the night’s shadows across the bare path of the present, I believe I shall see not my own youth, but its youth, not the boy clutching his mother’s skirt and shouting: 'Wait until I am a man, and you will lie on the feathers,' but a little girl in a purple dress and white jacket, walking towards me through long fields, singing to herself and carrying her father’s dinner in her hands." /Excerpt from James Matthew Barrie’s Margaret Ogilvy: Life Is a Long Lesson in Humility
Have you ever felt childhood slipping further away, even though its echoes still linger in your heart?Peter Pan is an 8-scene fairytale for adults, but not necessarily for those who feel that way.
A girl, rushing to grow up, embarks on a lively journey through Neverland with Peter Pan and other boys, where she is inevitably confronted with a great unknown — the end of childhood — while, for the first time, becoming aware of the fleeting nature of her own life.
The acrobatic movements of the actors and elements of physical theatre reflect the flexibility of memory — jumping between past and present, blending reality and imagination, creating a magical, surreal atmosphere. This synthesis of playfulness and melancholy emphasizes the central idea: childhood never truly disappears as long as we continue to play. Play is the essential element of childhood, used not only for storytelling but also for acting out our fears and for deeper self-discovery.
About the Director:
Karolis Zajauskas is a debut director in professional theatre. While studying, he became a laureate of the Spoleto Festival "Festival dei Due Mondi" (Italy), where he presented the play The Heart of the Betrayed based on Edgar Allan Poe’s short story. In 2023, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in directing (mentor Gintaras Varnas) with a thesis work based on Sarah Kane's Cleansed (Arts Printing House, Vilnius). About the Author:
James Matthew Barrie (1860 – 1937) was a Scottish writer who grew up in a large, poor working-class family. His connection with his mother, who never fully recovered from the loss of Barrie’s brother, is reflected in many of his works. The author is best known for Peter Pan, a children’s literary classic – the story of a boy who never grows up and travels with other children to the land of Neverland. Barrie’s works are filled with imagination, wonder, and a playful spirit, often addressing themes of loss, love, and magical youth.
