2023 FESTIVAL "STARTING POINT" SKETCH CONTEST

We invite all young theater creators to participate in the sketch contest and present their work to Lithuanian audience!

We are waiting for your ideas of the performances until the 18th of June. The three most suitable ideas for the theater repertoire will receive funding and assistance in creating a sketch. The winner of the competition will be given mentorship and support to turn the sketch into a full performance and present it on the stage of the Kaunas City Chamber Theatre.

About the sketch contest

"The Starting Point" is the youth theater festival. The main goal is to organize a festival for young theater creators and a young theater audience that highlights youth issues and provides an opportunity to the young artist generation for self-expression and self-education. 

In order not only to encourage young artists, but also to provide real support in the implementation of their ideas, we traditionally publish an open call for young performing artists – to propose ideas for the production which would target young audiences (14-29 years old). Taking into account the opinions of experts and festival audience, we will select the 3 most suitable ideas for the theater repertoire and provide 500 euros funding for the creation of their sketches (up to 15 min), which will be presented to the public in September of 2023 during the "Starting point" festival. The winners of the contest will be given opportunity to turn the sketch into a full performance and present it on the stage of the Kaunas City Chamber Theatre.

Conditions:

The sketch will have to be created and shown during the festival "Starting point” in 2023 in September (the screening date will be revised and adjusted depending on the possibilities of the selected participants and the festival program).

• Beginner artists can apply;

• The project must not be shown publicly (sketches shown in previous competitions can participate in this competition if they have not yet been shown publicly as full performances);

• The project must target young audiences (14-29 years old) and fit into the spaces of the Kaunas City Chamber Theater (link to the theater spaces https://www.kamerinistteatras.lt/erdves/ );

• The means of expression are not limited, but they must be reasonable and enforceable.

Rating Criteria

The main selection criteria is the quality of the project/idea. The work must be structured, complete, coherent and reasonable. The appropriateness of the size of the creative team, the adaptability of the format to the spaces of the Kaunas City Chamber Theater are evaluated. Demonstration costs are taken into account, so participants are asked to provide a project estimate that must be reasonable.
