We invite all emerging performing arts creators to take part in the sketch competition and present their work to a wider audience!

We are accepting performance ideas until June 29.

The ideas most suitable for the theatre’s repertoire will receive funding and support for developing a sketch, and the competition winner will be given the opportunity to turn their sketch into a full performance and present it on the stage of the Kaunas City Chamber Theatre.

About the work-in-progress competition

In order not only to encourage young artists but also to provide real support in bringing their ideas to life, we are once again announcing an open call for emerging performing arts creators to submit ideas for productions aimed at a young audience (ages 14–29).

Based on expert evaluations, 3–4 ideas most suitable for the theatre’s repertoire will be selected and granted up to €600 in funding to create sketches (up to 15 minutes long), which will be publicly presented during the 2025 “Starting Point” festival.

The winner of the sketch competition will be given the opportunity to develop a full-length performance, which will be included in the Kaunas City Chamber Theatre’s repertoire.

Conditions

• The sketch must be created and presented during the “Starting Point” festival in September 2025 (exact date to be confirmed and coordinated depending on participants’ availability and the festival program);
• Applicants must be emerging performing arts creators up to 35 years old (inclusive);
• The project must not have been publicly presented before (sketches shown in previous competitions may participate if they have not yet been developed into full performances);
• The project must be intended for a young audience (ages 14–29) and adaptable to the spaces of the Kaunas City Chamber Theatre: https://www.kamerinisteatras.lt/erdves/;
• Artistic means are not restricted, but they must be well-justified and feasible.

Evaluation criteria

• The main selection criterion is the quality of the project/concept: it must be structured, cohesive, well-developed, and conceptually grounded;
• The relevance of the creative team size and the suitability of the format for the theatre’s spaces will be assessed;
• Production costs (budget section 7) will be taken into account;
• Applicants are required to submit a preliminary budget for the full performance, which must be reasonable and justified.

Completed applications for the 2025 FESTIVAL “STARTING POINT” SKETCH COMPETITION (including the project application form, full performance budget, and applicant’s CV) are accepted until June 29, 2025 (inclusive).
