We invite all emerging artists to participate in the sketch competition and present their work to a wide audience!

We are accepting performance ideas until 24 June. The ideas best suited for the theatre’s repertoire will receive funding and support for creating a sketch. The winners of the competition will be assisted in turning their sketch into a full performance and presenting it on the stage of the Kaunas City Chamber Theatre.

About the Sketch Competition

In order to not only encourage young artists but also provide real support in realising their ideas, we traditionally announce an open call for young performing arts creators to submit ideas for performances aimed at a young audience (aged 14–29).

Taking into account the opinions of experts, we will select 3–4 ideas most suitable for the theatre’s repertoire and award up to 600 EUR in funding for the creation of sketches (up to 15 minutes long). These sketches will be presented publicly during the 2024 “Išeities taškas” festival. The winner of the sketch competition will be given the opportunity to create a full performance, which will be included in the repertoire of the Kaunas City Chamber Theatre.

Conditions:

• The sketch must be realised and presented during the “Išeities taškas” festival in September 2024 (the exact presentation date will be clarified and coordinated depending on the possibilities of the selected participants and the festival programme).
• Emerging artists may apply;
• The project must not have been publicly presented before (sketches shown in previous competitions may participate if they have not yet been shown publicly as full performances);
• The project must be intended for a young audience (aged 14–29) and suitable for the spaces of the Kaunas City Chamber Theatre (see the theatre venues here: https://www.kamerinisteatras.lt/erdves/);
• There are no restrictions on means of expression, but they must be well-justified and feasible.

Evaluation Criteria

The main selection criterion is the quality of the project/idea. The work must be structured, complete, cohesive, and well-founded. The appropriateness of the creative team’s size and the suitability of the format for the spaces of the Kaunas City Chamber Theatre are also evaluated. Consideration is given to the costs of presentation, therefore participants are asked to submit a project budget that is purposeful and justified.

Completed application forms for the 2024 “STARTING POINT” FESTIVAL WORK IN PROGRESS COMPETITION, together with the attached documents (project application form, budget for the creation of a full performance, and the applicant’s CV), should be submitted by 24 June 2024 (inclusive).
